The Schools of Nursing at Elms College and the Episcopal University of Haiti (Faculte des Sciences Infirmieres de Leogane) have created an online continuing education program for Haitian nursing faculty. With funding from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, this innovative program offers a streamlined path for nurse educators to advance their knowledge and skillsets rapidly, with the goal of improving the health outcomes in Haiti through nurse faculty development.

This program is essential because most of the healthcare in Haiti is delivered by nurses, not doctors. Therefore, nursing faculty throughout Haiti need enhanced training to be better prepared to educate future Haitian nurses.
The first two cohorts of nurse educators graduated through the program in May 2022 and earned certificates transferable into the master’s and bachelor’s degree-completion programs at the Episcopal University of Haiti School of Nursing. Funding from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation will provide opportunity for two more cohorts of nursing educators to complete the program.
